The powers of the undead come with the curse of immortality. The vampire does not die but goes on age after age, multiplying the evils of the world. He flourishes when he can fatten on the blood of the living. He casts no shadow, no reflection. He has the strength of many in his hand. He commands the elements, the storm the thunder, the fog. He commands the lesser beasts; the bat, the rat, the wolf. This is the terrible foe we must face; the terrible task we undertake. How then
